Degrees and Certifications:

Wendy Ficker

Hello Second Graders and welcome to Room 1! My name is Wendy Ficker and I have taught at Jefferson for six years. I was drawn to Jefferson because it reminds me of my hometown which is also a small, agricultural community. When I drove into town for the first time, I felt like I was coming home!

Some things about me. I earned my Bachelor’s degree at Boise State University and my Master’s in Education at Western Oregon University with an ESOL endorsement. I have two wonderful children. My daughter is a social worker, and my son is a math and science teacher! It was so much fun raising them that I decided to become a teacher.

I enjoy Marvel movies and I rewatched them all in timeline order this summer! I like playing sudoku, working on puzzles, camping and rocks. Also, playing with my grandchildren, being curious and just having fun! I love learning!

Fun fact, we lived on the island of Guam for three years. We had fun catching geckos and coconut crabs, going to the beach and walking into warm water, and exploring caves. My son refused to wear jeans when we returned to the States because he was so used to wearing shorts.

I strive to make learning fun and engaging. Our classroom is an inclusive and respectful environment where it's safe to make mistakes. Mistakes are part of learning and show growth. We will learn so much this year and work very hard, but in a fun way. We will learn and grow together, build friendships and cheer each other on! I am looking forward to meeting you!
